Ford Brings Back Fun with the 2013 Shelby GT500 Convertible

With the public eye fixed tightly on fuel economy, Jerry's Ford in Alexandria knows that other automotive aspects like speed are sometimes pushed to the side. Thankfully, Ford delivers on both. While the ambitious automaker has found success pushing out efficient new Ford models (i.e. the Ford Fusion Hybrid), it still knows how to have a little fun.

How much fun are we talking? Recently, Ford unleashed its 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible. And if the model's formidable 650-hp doesn't absolutely blow your mind, the astounding 0-to-60-in-under-4-seconds sprint time sure will. Speaking in reference to this asphalt-melting new model, Hau Thai-Tang, Director of Global Product Programs, says, "Even with our focus on delivering more fuel efficient choices to our customers, at Ford we still love to go fast."1

Along with its Shelby GT500 Coupe sibling, the new Mustang convertible rides on a 5.8-liter aluminum V8 engine with rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. Both Shelby models are also offered with a performance package that includes Bilstein electronic dampers which are made to give drivers a choice of suspension mode: Normal or Sport. Of course, those who are really looking to heat up the racing tracks should opt for the coupe's Track Package. Under this deal, Ford provides Shelby owners with an added external engine oil cooler, rear differential cooler and transmission cooler.

In order to make sure the 2013 Shelby twins can handle all the Ford-given fury, engineers have completely revamped the brakes, gearing and suspension. Those looking to slip behind the wheel of either models should stay tuned to Jerry's Ford in Alexandria at 6510 Little River Turnpike Alexandria, VA 22312 over the next few months. Company officials claim that both will be available to the consumer market come spring.
