While Ford holds over 125 patents on their fuel-conserving, power-boosting technology, the class-leading 2012 Ford Explorer represents the first usage of the leading-edge engine in North America.

To enhance the inherent fuel-saving capabilities of the EcoBoost engine, Ford has also integrated the 2012 Ford Explorer with aerodynamic detailing, a variable-displacement air conditioning compressor, electric power-assisted steering, and distinctive 6F35 six-speed automatic transmission (specially engineered to mitigate friction and optimize efficiency). As one final step toward delivering best-in-class fuel economy, Ford has engineered the 2012 Ford Explorer to run on low-friction 5W-GF5 motor oil.
